esse quam videri: A Catholic Tradition of Social Justice -
Lenore Yarger
These are difficult days for Catholics in North Carolina – at least for some of us. The Catholic Church has drawn much attention lately through myriad issues that keep erupting in the news, including debates over who can marry and who should have to pay for contraception, as well…
What is contemplative prayer? -
Carmelite Sister Laus Gloriae has a nice piece explaining contemplative prayer today over at Integrated Catholic Life over here.a> So if your curious, I would recommend giving it a read. Usually people link contemplative prayer to meditation, and they are different.
Referrencing St. John of the Cross, she discusses the ways that God may be leading us to contemplation. Basically, if the rosary is boring, if the doing another novena is just not attractive, or you don’t want to do the divine mercy chaplet, but you keep doing it, because you think you are supposed to mortify yourself, and do it anyways, this might be a good read for you.

I don’t know what I want.
And even if I did, I don’t know if I’ll get it.
I would like to believe that I can get messages or indicators pointing me where to go or what to think or how to feel from my favorite songs, or fortune cookies, or license plate numbers. But that’s not how it works.
However, it’s not like God’s being silent with me.
He’s just telling me, over and over: “Chill, bro.”
I think God would use “chill”. He would definitely use “bro”, as well.
